Title: Preventing spills around the smoker
Post by: iamimdoc on August 24, 2020, 11:12:42 AM
Have a number 3 smoker

Will probably get a stand - "Stephanie".

When I open the door and pull out the racks, fluids often drip on my concrete patio - from the meat and or bottom of the door.

I have out down newspapers, plastic bags etc - not very elegant

Anyone else have a better solution (pull out trays for example)

I have a #3 on a stand and don't get drips from the door or racks after cooking.
I've only got drips when putting jerky in and then I just wash the deck down.
There are "antifatigue" mats that can be cleaned and made for food service that would work for the front of the smoker to keep area clean.

I have two different mats that I put down depending on what I am smoking. One is a 4’x4’ heavy plastic mat and the other is a 2x2 carpet mat. I have flagstone on the patio, so, the grease stains if I get it on there. These mats work to help with that and I can hose them down when I am done if needed.

I will also use a cutting board underneath the grate when I pull. Just all depends on what I’m smoking.

I have the same issue with my SI2.  I often get drippings around the door and when I move the racks to check on the food, to spritz, etc.  I use a grill mat now to keep fluids off the deck.

I just use a front door welcome mat   (I get em at thrift stores for hardly nothing)
