Title: Wheels that don’t lock
Post by: Becausethewind on August 17, 2022, 11:27:08 AM
Set up my smoker earlier in the week.   Added the casters but the wheels don’t lock the plastic stopper doesn’t seem to engage and the wheels also don’t stay straight so when moving the smoker they move in all diédrico a stopping you from moving forward.  What could be an elegant and graceful entrance to the area becomes a bit cumbersome and filled with expletives lol

Anyone else have this issue with their wheels ?

Not sure I understand.  My casters when they lock act as a brake, the wheels stop moving so the smoker stays in one place.  The locks are not to stop the casters from swiveling/pivoting.

Sorry for the confusion.

The plastic stoppers for the wheels don’t clamp down at all so they never stop the wheels.   As an aside when I’m moving the smoker the wheels don’t stay straight and just start swiveling all over the place when rolling.

My wheels are fine.  No issues at all.

Have the wheels changed?  I don't think there were any plastic parts on any of mine.

Hi. Here’s a photo of the wheel lock.  It doesn’t engage with the wheel
At all

Yeah... those are totally different from all that I've seen in the past.  Mine have a metal 'butterfly' rocker on the side of the wheels that lock.

Put your foot on that lever with the black oval and step down on it with a lot of weight. It will pivot down about 45 degrees and your wheel will be locked. It unlocks easier than it locks. I don't expect mine to last long but time will tell.

It may take some time to break them in since it is new.  A spray with silicon on the pivot may help.
