smoking thin strips of precooked ham
« on: December 11, 2019, 09:48:48 AM »
I have a small ham that my wife and I are not all that pleased with. I would like to smoke some of the thin 1/8th inch slices in my electric smoker. Any ideas?
I might add that the ham has been partially served out for dinner so I cut the remainder into appx. 2" x 1/8" slices.

No replies. So I just fried them up and we'll eat them that way.

Hi Ken - Sorry I missed your post earlier.   Because the slices are so thin, and I am assuming already cooked/ready to heat and eat, you could get a good smoke going and then place the meat in the smoker, lock it down and shut off the electric after a minute or so. The residual smoke and heat would probably be enough.  Leaving the smoker element on could dry out the ham.  Adding a small tray of water when you fire up the smoker initially my be good to help keep the meat moist.

Thanks for the reply. I didn't think anyone would have tried what I was wanting to do so wasn't really expecting to find out much. It was a one-time thing on the ham so won't be doing that again. I do appreciate the answer you gave though. I will be smoking a spiral cut ham for Christmas this year and am really looking forward to it.

I just got my SmokinIt after Thanksgiving but I did smoke a precooked spiral ham to take to a Thanksgiving dinner.  Three hours at 250 on my small propane smoker and the ham came out great.  I almost used too much wood and would have preferred a little less smoke but the rub and smoke combo on the precooked spiral ham was awesome.  The crowd enjoyed the ham as evidenced by its disappearance and comments.  Good luck with your Christmas ham.

Hey, I'm also looking for the high smoking electric smoker for my house. I have read some reviews related to electric smoker and now thinking to buy one.

This feels very strongly like spam...  did you have a question about the Smokin-It smokers?
