Title: Need to auto tune the built-in digital temperature controller?
Post by: snakyjake on August 02, 2016, 02:13:52 PM
Does the built-in Auber digital temperature controller need to be auto tuned?

I figure that all the smokers (except for size) or pretty much the same, therefore the PID setting would be the same, and would be pre-tuned by the vendor.

The manual doesn't mention tuning, but I did see posts and other instructions for tuning.  Perhaps tuning and those instructions are for the standalone Auber controller instead of the built-in controller?

Thanks in advance.

They are already auto-tuned from the factory and you should not need to do your own auto-tune unless you are having temp control issues.

Most will not have to do an auto-tune.

Jake, if your temps are OK, there's no need to autotune.  We pre-programmed the controllers for each specific model, and the vast majority are fine.  Every now and then, someone has issues with accuracy (this can be effected by their environment), so an autotune tightens it up.  If you are not having issues, the old adage applies:  "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!" ;)
