how much time to add?
« on: August 16, 2014, 08:44:13 PM »
Plan on doing 3 racks of baby backs, potatoes and bakes beans.
How long should this take and what temp. Had planned on 5 hour no peek on ribs, but not sure if extra time should be added for beans and taters.

If I were to cook that load in my #3 I would go 240 for 4 hours then check. My unit may run hot or possibly I like my ribs done a little differently than others. I have not had a rib smoke go past 4.5 hours, some were done as early as 3.5 I like the bone to come clean but still have enough pull left in the meat to satisfy my inner caveman.

I agree with brian, temp 240 for 4.5 hours, if they almost fall apart there are done, if not another 30 minutes and try  agaiin.

BB ribs and backed potatoes take about the same time...I go 225F for 5.5 hours with the ribs and potatoes, but sometimes I can remove the potatoes at the 4 hour mark when I sauced the ribs if they feel done; otherwise, they just stay on the smoker.    Another option is to just foil the potatoes at the 4 hours mark and put them back in the smoker.
