Since the SSR is from Auber, they could tell you if there is a system light on it or not.  Something else you might try is to see if voltage is passing from the switch to the board.  If not, bad switch.  Just sort of trouble shooting

Doug - I did upgrade. Have not used it yet; still picking through the instructions. As far as I can tell, you donít need prove 2 or 3 if cooking to time only. I am not attempting to use the app. Still piddling around directly at the controller. Havenít had much free time of late.

There is no law prohibiting the use of one except that the essentially leak power (I don't know the specifics) and thus performance of whatever is plugged into one suffers. Maybe imperceptibly. Give it a shot and if it works, you good to go.  I used an extension o my CookShack for a year or so and then ran a new outlet just for the smoker. I really never noticed any difference before or after.

That load will keep you smoking for quite some time. Enjoy!

You should be OK, just park it as far from the smoke vent as safely possible.

The PID controller is more precise and keeps the set temp within a degree or so.

Bitterness could be from too much wood or poor quality wood or combustion.   Butts take time and for some odd reason larger butts finish quicker.

Glad you had a successful first smoke.  Don't worry about having liquid left over. Pretty normal, at least from my experience.
