A question was posed in discussion about how much brisket, does one eat after cooking your own brisket. So I am asking the the group to contribute knowing you probably don't weigh your portions, but what do you think your own brisket serving size is in ounces, at home, per meal.

I use my brisket in a lot of different ways so the amount is also very different. We never eat brisket just as a plate dish but rather as a sandwich or a topping on another recipe.

For planning purposes, I usually plan on 8 oz (1/2lb) per person.

For me, there are major factors to consider when determining portion size. #1 How is it being served (sandwiches or as a main entree). #2 The type of crowd being served (families with small kids, typical couples or a bunch of hungry guys (especially high school or college age). As a habit, we always prepare an excessive amount for the number of people. I would hate for someone to go hungry.

5 to 6 ounces per person. But few follow the plan.

When I entertain, my guests are usually stuffed to the gills by the end of the appetizers. LOL!

Now that's a great way to keep more of the main event for yourself. Have to remember that one

Brisket is rich and filling. And it depends on the sides. 6 ounces "cooked" is probably an average hungry person amount. I would plan a minimum of 8-10 ounces per person uncooked. And that's conservative. 1 pound per person gives you some leftovers, along with point portions for burnt ends later.
