Title: 1st smoke on the 3 has started.
Post by: hunter2c on August 18, 2017, 01:56:36 PM
My smoker was delivered and got it all seasoned up yesterday. I started my first cook (Spare Ribs) at 12:15 today (wanted to get started at 12 but took a little longer to set up then I give time for). I hope 2.5 oz of wood is enough it does not look like much.

Good choice for the first smoke!    When I do ribs, I usually go with 4-5oz of wood,  but this is something you can always experiment until you find what fits your taste.   Good luck with the smoke and let us know how the ribs turn out...pictures always encouraged!   ;)

If your ribs come out a little light on flavor just sauce them up and us another ounce or two of wood on the next smoke. You will get the flavor you and your family like. Just takes some time.

Ribs were juicy and fall off the bone just light on the smoke flavor. As with anything there will be a learning curve. My drip pan was about ½ full is that normal? Do you have to empty it during a butt smoke?

Pretty simple way to get good juicy ribs.  I've not yet had to empty mine mid smoke but it is pretty full when the butt is done.
