I took the inner packing box that my #2 shipped in and converted it into a cover. I got a free tarp from Harbor Freight, some duct tape and some glue. A short time later I have a great cover. I shortened the box just a little so I have a one to two inch gap at the bottom.
This fits perfectly over my smoker even with the cord hanger installed. It's sturdy and heavy enough it's not going to blow off. Because it's rigid, it should protect the knob, too.

Novel idea!

Love the hillbilly ingenuity of it all! Except it looks way too nice. The duct tape job looks perfect and straight! Way to make use of things you have on hand!

Nice job thinking outside of the box. ;) I love the ingenuity!

Sustainable re-purposing.
...HOLY COW! Did I just say THAT???!! ;D ;D
Great idea!

Sustainable re-purposing.
Recycling and reuse really are important to me, so that was certainly a consideration.
This was actually very easy to do in a way that looks nice and should be durable. If anyone wants to do the same, but is hesitant... it's not difficult. I can write up some instructions.

I'm sure folks would find that useful, Larry! Instructions are always welcome.

I hate this post...my box went to the kids to build a fort a long time ago and I'm kicking myself for not thinking of this first.
You might want to post this in the what to do when it arrives section. It is a great idea.
Cheers.

Forts are fine, my son made it into a car wash! It didnt last though the first rain:)

Good idea to save the box just in case you need warranty repair.
