Door popping open on model 1
« on: January 02, 2020, 11:35:32 AM »
Hey!
I am new to Smokin-it.  I ran into an issue last night while smoking  ribs.  The door was very difficult to close and actually popped open a couple times about 4.5 hours in.  Now I am a newbie and am probably checking too much, but my thermometer is coming tomorrow.  However I am concerned about the door.
Also this morning, when I took the cover off to put the racks in after cleaning, the door popped open by itself.
Has anyone had a similar issue?  Am I doing something wrong, like shutting the door😂?
The ribs were fantastic by the way.  Thanks for all of your advice!

Not sure how latch could open even if there isn't any friction to hold it in closed position unless maybe the door isn't seated all the way down on the hinges. Pic is of the #1 hinge and shows how there is no gap between door side and body side of hinge.

Just make sure you have the latch locked down good. If you are locking it down and it is riding up on it's own, contact Steve.

Thanks for the information! My hinges look good, but the handle does creep up a bit, after I shut it.  I will contact Steve.
Thanks again

I know the doors are harder to close when they first arrive and getting the latches down in place was tight but that loosens up a bit.

But I have a 3D and two latches, so I can’t help other than that. Contacting Steve is good but if your ribs were great, then it’s sealing well and keeping the temp. That’s a good thing.

Thanks for all of your help.  Steve sent me a new door, and it works better.  Smoked a pork butt this weekend!

Same thing started happening to my #1. I've had it a few years, and when I started using it this year I have to wedge a small wood chip where the arm meets the latch to keep it from popping out of the latch. I will contact Steve to see what he says.
