skin the salmon?

Hi ! Gary here, Northeastern Québec. I mostly smoke trout and use a Little Chief. Grocery had huge special on salmon, so before I try smoking it, pictures I look at show chunks with skin still ON. Is this normal ? Thanks for your time .

I leave the skin on, it helps to keep the pieces intact.

Indeed it does, but it's not likely to get crispy if you're smoking it. I think if you took the skin off after smoking and crisped it up in a cast iron pan, it might taste pretty good. I tried that once but I couldn't keep the skin laying flat in the pan.
